Nyack College's own School of Music professor, Dr. Tammy Lum, pianist (pictured at left) will be joined by Nyack alumnus Jacob Nevill (‘08), saxophonist/composer in a performance “Music of the Americas” at the Nyack Public Library located at 59 S. Broadway, Nyack NY 10960 on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 7:00 p.m.

Nyack College is a part of the Rockland County Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration Committee, a consortium of local community leaders, groups, and institutions that will honor the educational, spiritual, and service-oriented ideals embodied in the national Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

The following events are planned for the Monday, January 19 federal holiday.

 St. Charles AME Zion Church,
432 Valentine Avenue, Sparkill, NY -10:00 a.m.

The day kicks off with the annual MLK community breakfast at St. Charles A.M.E., serving Rockland County residents.

Riverspace Arts in Nyack
119 Main Street, Nyack, New York

12 noon - 5:30 p.m. A blood drive with Bloodmobiles, provided by New York Blood Center/Hudson Valley Blood Services, stationed directly outside of Riverspace. In the theatre’s lobby, a number of local health organizations will provide health screenings, information, and/or health screening kits for blood pressure, diabetes, and other health concerns.

12 noon – 2:00 p.m. A continuous loop of the A&E biography on the life and ministry of Dr. King. 

4:00-5:30 p.m. A food fair will be held in a heated tent with samples from area restaurants for Pilgrim Baptist Church service attendees, volunteers who serve in the day’s activities, and others to encourage participation in the blood drive and other evening events. There will be a number of live stage performances in the theatre, including dramatic resentations, a youth choir, dance troupes, and music.

2:00 p.m. The annual Martin Luther King Day commemorative service is a well-received community gathering co-sponsored by the Nyack NAACP and the Rockland Ministerial Alliance.

7:30 p.m.  An annual fundraiser: a jazz concert, featuring the legendary pianist, Monty Alexander.
