"If there's a gap between a school's financial aid offer and the amount you'll have to pay, you can use your outside scholarship to make up the difference," reports USA Today. "But if the school provides a 'full-need package' - one that's supposed to cover all your college costs - the school is required by law to reduce your financial aid by the amount of any outside scholarships," says Robert Clagett, dean of admissions for Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vt. "In comparing financial aid packages, it's important to figure out how that aid adjustment will be made."
