Degree: M.A. in Counseling, 66 Credits

 

  • Students who have previously completed a MSW or MA in Counseling may enter the program as a “Non-Degree Seeking student” allowing them to take classes to meet the educational requirements necessary for the licensure process, or receive further training in counseling/faith integration.

 

Description: “Equipping God’s Servants to Do God’s Healing Work in Broken Lives”

  • A Biblically grounded Master of Arts in Counseling. Graduates will be academically prepared to pursue state licensure and provide professional counseling that effectively addresses the psychospiritual (natural & spiritual) needs of distressed human beings and damaged relationships.

 

Duration: 2 years if Full-Time, 3-5 years Part Time

  • Offered Part-Time or Full Time
  • Evening and Weekend classes
  • Fall and Spring Admission granted
  • Fall, Spring, Summer classes (+Mayterm & Winterim)
  • Offered in both NYC and Nyack

 

Program Description:

  • 43 Credits- Required Counseling Courses
  • 9 Credits- Internship
  • 8 Credits- Elective Counseling Courses
  • 6 Credits- Courses in Bible and Theology

 

Entrance Requirements:

  • 2.8 GPA in a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • 3 Psychology Courses: General Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Human Growth & Development (or Theories of Personality)

Enrollment:

  • AGSC is the fastest growing graduate school of Christian Counseling in the Eastern United States with currently 220 students and anticipated growth.

 

Demographics:

  • Students of AGSC range in age from 22-72 and are comprised of a wide range of ethnic backgrounds.

 

Job Opportunities:

  • Mental Health Fields including- Individual and family counseling, hospitals, government agencies, substance abuse, behavioral counseling, etc. A large number of AGSC graduates are currently working in the Mental Health field. ** CT, NJ, NY require a license for professional counselors. AGSC helps prepare students for the necessary test, the National Counselor Examination (NCE). Students are prepared in the coursework and internship experience required to begin the process of obtaining a license.

Counselor Licensing Info:

  • NY, NJ, CT, & PA all have licensing for masters level counselors
  • Benefits: Establishes a minimum standard, regulation & 3rd party billing options

Requirements:

  • Minimum of an MA in Counseling
  • Passing score on the National Counselor Examination or Clinical Mental Health Counselor Exam (varies by state)
  • Additional hours of practice after receiving certification (which varies by state)

Internship Information:

  • On-Site Supervision of the Intern by a licensed counselor
  • Direct Client Contact At Least 40% of 700 Hours during the 11month Internship
  • Internship can also be done in an extended two-year program for part-time students
  • Evaluation of the Intern’s Progress & weekly group supervision by AGSC Faculty at School
