Philosophy and Program Goals

A.S.C. Philosophy

The Academic Success Center assumes that students struggle academically not because of a lack of inherent intelligence, but because of a lack of academic skills and discipline. These skills can be learned, discipline can be developed, and together they can open the door to academic success and improved self-esteem.

Because the services of the Academic Success Center are available to all students on the Rockland Campus, a number of the students are actually high achieving students who request tutoring for one particular course.

Program Goals

  • To provide learners with support and instruction, which enhance their academic experience, learning potential, and personal development
  • To better the student’s perception of his or her goals ad achievements.
  • To establish an environment that encourages the development of learning skills and builds student’s self-esteem.
  • To Promote those skills and independent study behaviors necessary for academic success.
  • To provide support services and resources for faculty members, as they seek to meet the needs of their students.
  • To establish a process for the evaluation of all aspects of the program.
