Winterim 2009
is the fruition of Nyack College’s commitment to its core values. Winterim courses provide students with the dynamic opportunity to study globally.
Winterim 2009 courses are available to any Nyack College student. Not only will financial aid apply to Winterim courses and associated in-country costs, but juniors and seniors who have spent five consecutive semesters at Nyack are eligible to apply for the Winterim travel stipend. Stipends are limited to juniors and seniors with at least a 2.75 GPA.
Completed applications should be submitted along with the Winterim application to:

Geographical And Historical Settings

A life-changing study program in the Holy Land. Its focus is the lives and ministries of familiar Old Testament and New Testament personalities. With the land as our classroom, and archaeology, history, geography and language as our tools, we explore the religious, political, cultural and geographical environment of prophets, priests and kings. Jesus’ ministry within the complex religious environment of the First Century is of particular interest. Our aim is to better understand the ancient settings in which God revealed His truth and accomplished His redemptive purposes through the lives of those recorded in the Scriptures.

Community Development In Context (ICS/PMN/CED/YMN 329)

Experience Christ-centered international community development in practice. This course provides the student with the opportunity to study and participate in both international NGO and grassroots community movements. Dr. Jennings has a long standing relationship with this site and will provide the student with a model of how community development can be done on site as well as resourced off-site.

Peoples and Cultures of Mozambique and South Africa

This course will provide the student with encounters with African peoples located in Maputo, Mozambique and Capetown, South Africa. Attention will be given to both rural and urban. This course will also highlight the mega theme of Forgiveness as students study the impact of Apartheid and war in the region.
*Due to the nature of this course, there will be significant in-country travel. The strenuous travel activity involved should be considered before enrolling.

The Church In The Urban Context
Barcelona, Spain

This course examines the role of the church in the urban setting of Barcelona, Spain. The outreach, community involvement, service of the church will be studied as churches address spiritual and social need. Various target populations will be engaged with methods used by the local church.

Fine Arts In Venice

The city of Venice is, in some ways, a living museum of Art. To the city came great merchants, artists, theologians, and musicians from all over the Christian World. This course will feature great Renaissance Artists and musicians who made St. Mark’s the center of the Renaissance music world.

Cairo, Egypt
A study of the history and culture of Egypt with special focus in four major divisions: Ancient Egypt (pre-Christianity), Early Christianity (Pre-Islam), Islamic Egypt, and Contemporary Egypt. Contemporary Egypt will look into the situation of the economic, social, and religious landscape of the country, with special attention on the developments related to the life and ministry of the Christian church in that country.
