Music Ensembles (Nyack)
Students in all majors are invited
to participate in the ensembles listed below;
acceptance is by audition.

 


 

The Nyack College Chorale

Brass Ensemble
Dr. Glenn Koponen, Director
Major works for brass ensemble are performed, in addition to instrumental accompaniments for college choral ensembles. The Brass Ensemble participates in the annual Carol and Candlelight and Sounds of Praise tours as well as at concerts, graduation ceremonies, and other events of the college.

Chamber Music
Dr. Tammy Lum, Director
Faculty members coach students in intimate ensembles of two to eight musicians. The groups perform vocal, instrumental, and keyboard ensemble music from all periods-Renaissance to 20th Century-at the Fall and Spring Chamberfest concerts.

 

Chorale 
Prof. Joel Jameson, Director
The Nyack College Chorale is composed of about 60 men and women. Their repertoire spans many periods and styles. Activities include Christmas and spring concerts, chapel performances, campus and community appearances, participation in choral productions in Carnegie Hall, and domestic and European tours.

 

Handbell Choir 
Prof. Jennifer Scott, Director

Students have the opportunity to perform traditional and contemporary music on the School of Music's impressive collection of Schulmerich Handbells (5 octaves), Melmark Choir Chimes, and Indonesian Angklungs. The Handbell Choir participates in the annual Carol and Candlelight and Sounds of Praise tours as well as at concerts and other events of the college.

 

Opera Workshop 
Prof. Shelley Jameson, Director

Vocal students and alumni coach with internationally renowned opera singers in diction, movement, and acting. Studies culminate in a presentation of fully staged and costumed scenes, in the original languages. The ensemble has performed Carmen by Bizet,  La Boheme by Puccini and will perform both Suor Angelica and  La Traviata in the 2008-2009 school year.

 

String Orchestra
Prof. Sungrai Sohn, Director
The Nyack String Orchestra is comprised of students, faculty, and community instrumentalists who perform a wide range of music from baroque to contemporary. The Nyack String Orchestra often performs with professional soloists on campus and in the community.

Wind Ensemble 
Dr. Glenn Koponen, Director
The Nyack Wind Ensemble is comprised of students, alumni, faculty, and community musicians. The emphasis is on original works for wind ensemble and concert band. The Wind Ensemble performs in several concerts each year.
